A staunch PAM supporter, who managed the election campaign for Hon Lindsay Grant, Minister of Tourism and International Trade and Member of Parliament for St Christopher 4, was ejected from a Team Unity Town Hall Meeting on Tuesday night.
Clive Webster was removed from the Challengers Community Centre by Assistant Commissioner Adolph Adams and Justin Soleyn, the personal security officer for Deputy Prime Minister and Political Leader of the PAM, Hon Shawn Richards.
“I would be interacting with Mr Grant, and I will be asking Mr Grant serious questions to which I hope Mr Grant and members of the head table would be able to give me truthful answers and straight answers tonight,” said Webster, stating for the record, his questions will be directed to Mr Grant, who won February 16, 2015, general election, five years ago.
“Let me say for the record, Mr Grant, I will be addressing you, and I will be going to your credibility. The questions I am going to ask, you can lie, you can bull-sh-t them if you want, no problem” said Webster.
Informed by Azard Gumbs, the moderator, that he could ask only three questions, Mr Webster responded: “I have waited over five years to ask Lindsay Grant questions. I have given Mr Grant a job. Many people in number 4 have given Lindsay Grant a job. How many of us got a job from Grant. This is our time in four, and we are going to ask our questions either here or somewhere else,” he said in response to heckling by several persons.
“Mr Grant, since February (16) 2015, we voted for you. We gave you the golden opportunity you begged us for. Countless numbers of constituents would have approached you to seek simple services and opportunities. Your signature statement to them is ‘my hands are tied, and the prime minister ties me hands them.’ Tonight, here, justify by giving us specifics as to how the prime minister tied your hands them?” asked Webster.
Webster, while waiting for an answer to his first question, was told by Deputy Prime Minister Hon Shawn Richards to allow other persons to ask their questions.
“Can you kindly allow other persons behind you….there is a very long line. Can you allow someone else to ask his or her questions and once that has been completed you will get an opportunity to ask further questions,” Richards told Webster.
“Mr Richards, I have waited five years to talk to the man I voted for and his ungratefulness, this is what the reward is like,” responded Webster. Seconds after Webster was held by both arms by Adams and Soleyn, both in civilian clothes.
Grant, a former PAM leader and his law partner, Jonel Powell, Ambassador for Youth and Culture and the PAM candidate for St Christopher 2 (Central Basseterre) were recently found liable by a High Court Judge for breach of trust, breach of fiduciary duty and failure to account or misappropriation of US$460,000 (EC$1.2 million) belonging to a client, Tanzania Tobing Tanzil.
Both lawyers were also ordered Grant and Powell to appear before a Disciplinary Tribunal of two Judges of the High Court to consider whether they should be suspended from practising for a specified period of time or be struck off from the Court Roll.
The fifth anniversary of February 16, 2015, general election has passed, and the country awaits the dissolution of St Kitts and Nevis National Assembly and the date for the general election.
It is the first time in the history of elections in St Kitts and Nevis that a first-term government has passed the five years of the date on which the last general elections were held.
