On Sunday, the US sent 320 migrants back to Haiti by three scheduled flights. 6 more flights are expected to leave for Haiti on 21 September 2021. These all efforts are being put after the Government decided to send back the Haitians migrants who are over 1000 in number.
From 22 September 2021, the US decided to send 7 decided flights to Haiti daily. Out of these 7 flights, 4 are scheduled for Port-au-prince, and 3 have been scheduled for Cap-Haitian. The US authorities have decided on these routes.
According to the statement by the officials of the US government that there have been over 12,000 migrants who have been decided to expel. In the present situation, over 1000 Haitian migrants have been camped in Texas border town. Some groups of migrants camped around a bridge in – Del Rio, Texas, after crossing from Ciudad Acuña, Mexico. This could be the biggest expulsion of America in history.
Migrants were carrying their food boxes along with them while crossing the rivers at the same time the agents were yelling at the migrants to stop them.
On 19 September 2021, Mexico has also declared to send back the Haitian migrants from the country. One of the government officials cited that, Flights would be from towns along with the US border and the border along with Guatemala, where the largest group remains.
People of Haiti in recent times have been battling with political instability, COVID-19 outbreak, gang violence, and various other crisis. Recently, the President of the Caribbean island – Jovenel Moise, who was assassinated at his residence on 7 July 2021, also became a reason that has increased the political turmoil in the nation.
The situation has been worsened by the 7.2 magnitudes of the earthquake that hit the island on 14 August 2021, leaving thousands of people homeless, destroying more than 53,000 buildings, including – schools, churches, homes and other infrastructure, killing over 2,200 people.
