5 cases of newly reported MU variants of COVID-19 have been detected in St Vincent and Grenadines. MU is the latest strain related to coronavirus.
The National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO), through a statement, stated that the 5 cases of recently found MU variant was informed when for reviewing of sequencing results for samples sent to the Trinidad-based Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA)
The all these 5 cases have been reported from July 19 to August 9. These all cases were told to be found among the communities. The contacts have been traced from the person having a connection with positive cases and also from a person who was looking for some medical care.
NEMO said, “In view of the confirmed presence of the Mu variant of interest in the community and the increased risk of infection and subsequent transmission of COVID-19 posed by the growing incidence of variants of concern in persons entering St. Vincent and the Grenadines, strict compliance with all protocols and recommendations is strongly recommended. These include the effective use of masks, physical distancing, hand sanitizing and immunization with available vaccines.”
According to World Health Organization, the virus has been named as B.1.621- MU variant. While describing the virus organization said that it is a virus that has genetic variations between their known virus. This virus has been spreading infections in various countries.
During the WHO weekly COVID-19 bulletin, the organization said that from March, the time they have been monitoring different variants of COVID-19 MU is to be the 5th variant that they had discovered now. In the case of this virus, it has a constellation of mutations, and due to this, the virus becomes less responsive to the vaccines.
NEMO St Vincent and Grenadines had reported almost four new COVID-19 cases out of those 36 tests that were sent for testing. As a result, there was a total of 11.1 % positivity rate.
