Jamaica Empress has joined the Women’s Caribbean Premier League for the 2026 edition of the tournament. The officials have shared that they are the latest franchise to join the WCPL tournament and add another remarkable item for the growth of the island.
The organisers of the Caribbean Premier League will now have four teams for the growth of the island. The officials have shared that the Women’s Caribbean Premier League is a relatively new endeavor for the Caribbean Premier League.
Caribbean Premier League is one of the most popular cricketing events in the region, with the growth of the women’s league, the popularity has soared.
The organisation has shared that the Jamaica Empress will compete with the three time defending champions, Barbados Royals, who won the tournament in the years 2023, 2024 and 2025. The other two teams who are part of the Caribbean Premier League are, Trinbago Knight Riders, who won the inaugural edition of the Women’s Caribbean Premier League in 2022 and Guyana Amazon Warriors.
The first match of the 2026 edition of the tournament will be played between the defending champions, Barbados Royals and Trinbago Knight Riders. The Jamaica Empress Team will be playing their first game of the tournament against the Guyana Amazon Warriors.
The officials have shared that they are excited to welcome this new franchise to the lineup of the Caribbean Premier League. Like its make counterpart, WCPL has also attracted a significant viewership from across the Caribbean region. The players as well as the organisers believe that the tournament gives significant opportunities to the women.
Chief executive officer of the WCPL, Pete Russell said he was eagerly looking forward to this year’s tournament.
“The WCPL is about much more than what happens on the field. We are creating a platform where women can be celebrated, communities can come together, and young girls can see clear pathways to success in sport and beyond,” Russell said.
The tournament will be played in Barbados starting from September 5, 2026 to September 17, 2026.
