Basseterre: While St Kitts and Nevis, like all other countries around the world, is still struggling with the economic downturn stemming from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the administration under Prime Minister Dr Timothy Harris is working for the poor and needy in the society.
“In recent months, we have launched a number of initiatives to provide relief and to keep our people safe. The Team Unity Administration has allocated available resources and taken various measures to reduce economic hardships experienced by citizens and residents during this challenging period,” said PM Harris.
One such program is the highly successful Poverty Alleviation Program (PAP), which provides a monthly allowance of $500 per household, where the combined total income is below $3,000 per month.
Prime Minister Harris said that more than five thousand families in St. Kitts and Nevis benefited from the Poverty Alleviation Program.
“Our Poverty Alleviation Program (PAP) has brought and continues to bring much needed relief to many of our citizens and residents. Nevertheless, we have added other initiatives to complement the PAP. During the period January to July, we assisted more than 5,000 families under PAP for a total expenditure of $18.7 million,” said Dr Harris.
