St Kitts and Nevis has announced that they have signed an agreement with an internationally recognized Nollywood Filmmaker and Director, Steve Gukas. Gukas is the Founder of Natives Filmworks.
The agreement was signed during the first day of the Afri-Caribbean Investment Summit in Abuja, Nigeria. The Minister of Creative Economy, Samal Duggins signed the agreement with the filmmaker.
The agreement will help the two nations form an agreement between the two nations, strengthening the cultural and economic ties between the two nations. Another aim of bringing the programme together is to develop the creative economy of the country.
The Minister of Creative economy has been part of several engagements with Nigeria, where he held discussions with several stakeholders. The people of the island will be getting the opportunity to make sure that the people of the island.
The agreement will help in facilitating the production of a major film project on the island. The project is scheduled for June 2026.
The agreement also provides a new framework for the training, mentorship, and collaboration across the global African creative community. The Minister of Creative Economy, Samal Duggins spoke at the signing ceremony,
He shared that the creative economy has the potential to be transformative for the island nation. The agreement will also mean significant growth for the whole region.
Their aim is to develop 12 films across the region that look at global Africa from the perspective of the Caribbean. The Minister also highlighted that it is important for them to tell authentic stories that can highlight the diversity and shared heritage of Afro-descendant communities.
He added that this perspective is not exclusive to one island and showcases the vision of the whole Caribbean region.
Minister Samal Duggins said, “Western Hemisphere on a whole, looking at all the different cultures that exist because there are nuances… and those nuances we want to inject into these films and make sure that we see global Africa for what it truly is today.”
