The St Christopher Air and Sea Ports Authority (SCASPA) is celebrating 33 years of service in St Kitts and Nevis. The organisation was established in the year 1993 and has served as one the most important organs of the St Kitts and Nevis economy.
The organisation has shared that this is a major milestone for the organisation and the people of the island. The organisation has shared that the milestone reflects the dedication, commitment and collective efforts of our staff, past and present.
The members of the organisation have continued to contribute to the growth and development of the Authority. The officials have shared that the members of the organisation continue to be instrumental to the growth and wellbeing of the organisation.
The officials have shared that the organization has been crucial for the growth of the country as a tourism dependent economy. For the last 33 years, the SCASPA has been managing the operations of both the sea ports and the airport on the island.
The officials have shared the history of the organisation from before it came to be in existence in 1993. The organisation has shared a statement to commemorate the day. The statement extended their appreciation to every member of staff for the important role that they continue to play in keeping the ports moving and serving St. Kitts and Nevis.
Talking about the history of the organisation prior to 1993, the airport and seaport operated as two separate entities.
The officials have shared that the seaport operated under the name of the St. Christopher & Nevis Ports Authority and the Airport under the name of the Golden Rock Airport.
Prior to the formal beginning of the SCASPA, the seaport business was conducted at the Basseterre Deep Water Harbour/Cargo Port (Bird Rock) c. The port was onstructed in 1980, and its Administrative Offices located on the Bay Road.
In addition to this, the government built a Transit Shed for receipt and storage of cargo was built at the Basseterre Cargo Port in 1985, while a new Administrative Building followed in 1990.
In 1993, the St. Christopher Air & Sea Ports Authority was established, with control over both the Golden Rock Airport and Basseterre Cargo Port. The airport was renamed The Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport.
