St Kitts and Nevis’ Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Denzil Douglas, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan), Joseph Wu, on Thursday, August 18, 2022, in a virtual meeting. After exchanging greetings, the Taiwan Foreign Minister congratulated Dr Douglas and Saint Kitts and Nevis Labour Party on a decisive victory at the polls on August 5, 2022.
The two senior diplomats expressed their satisfaction regarding the longstanding relations between Saint Kitts and Nevis and the Republic of China (Taiwan).
The republic of China (Taiwan) was one of the first countries in the world to establish a diplomatic relationship with the twin-island federation of St Kitts and Nevis and one of the first countries in the world to accept the twin islands as an independent nation.
The counterparts from the Republic of China (Taiwan) and St Kitts and Nevis committed to continued support in economic development and advocacy for Taiwan’s participation in international organizations.
Among the topics discussed between the two leaders, the chief issues were training, scholarships, and deepening cooperation in agriculture, hospitality and tourism. Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ms Kaye Bass, and the Republic of China (Taiwan’s) Resident Ambassador to Saint Kitt’s and Nevis, Mr Michael Lin, were also in attendance at the meeting.
During a familiarisation visit, the newly appointed minister of foreign affairs, Denzil Douglas took time from his schedule to meet with the Ministry of foreign affairs on Thursday, August 18, 2022.
The familiarization meeting was held at the Ministry’s conference room at Port Zante. It was headed by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ms Kaye Bass, and had all the Ministry of foreign affairs staff present, save for those on vacation.
The Minister of foreign affairs, Dr Douglas took this chance to thank the members of the ministry for working to the best of their capabilities for the country.
