St. Kitts and Nevis’ Foreign Minister Dr. Denzil Douglas recently visited Dubai, United Arab Emirates, to attend the 14th Edition of the Global Blockchain Congress. On Thursday, February 6, 2025, he shared on social media details about his experience gathered at the event which was held at the JW Marriott Marquis Hotel in the desert city. The veteran leader was present at the conference as his country’s minister of investment and economic development.
“It was indeed a pleasure today for me to join with Investors from around the World at the 14th Edition of the Global Blockchain Congress being held here in Dubai, at the J. W. Marriott Marquis Hotel. I was invited as a Guest in my capacity as Minister of Investment and Economic Development,” Douglas, a former prime minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, said.
Douglas met St. Kitts and Nevis’s citizens and businessmen
He said during the event, he met many of his country’s citizens as businessmen who are looking for opportunities to expand their ventures as St. Kitts and Nevis has announced its mission to grow its economy using modern digital tools such as artificial intelligence (AI) and blockchain technology.
Dr. Douglas praised the current Labour government led by Prime Minister Terrence Drew saying it encourages networking among economic citizens to discover opportunities for boosting employment and growth in the digital economy, propelled by technology.
Stressing St. Kitts and Nevis’s emergence in the Caribbean region and the role digital economic development plays in the overall progress of its people, particularly young entrepreneurs, it was necessary for Basseterre to have a representation at the Congress in Dubai, the minister added.
He also said that St. Kitts and Nevis hopes to host such events in the future as it comes to terms with the cryptocurrency realities and the global acceptability of its Citizenship by Investment programme and the global virtual/digital citizen.
“The future is most exciting,” he said.
Douglas also said the Blockchain Congress is the first for 2025 to be held in Dubai. One more event will be held later in the year.
The St. Kitts and Nevis minister’s engagement in Dubai follows his recent trips to countries such as India and other global summits. His participation in the Congress indicates a shift toward embracing economic models driven by blockchain and AI. It is to be seen how the Caribbean nation transforms the vision into something beneficial for the citizens.
