Basseterre, St Kitts: Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew announces plans already in making for the launch of a comprehensive 90-day campaign aimed at addressing crime and violence from a public health perspective.
The first meeting was held on July 31, 2024 marking a significant progress in the efforts to create a healthier and safer society. The meeting consisted of members of the Nevis Evangelical Association and several members of the planning committee.
The 90-day long campaign will include several activities meant to engage and educate the community. Highlights of the project will include:
- A National Consultation on Citizens Security: This will bring together the experts, community leaders, and stakeholders in order to discuss the strategies and best practices for reducing crime and violence.
- Community and Family-Oriented Activities: These will promote unity, resilience, and support within neighbourhoods and families. This would strengthen social bonds and foster a culture a peace.
Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis also underscored the significance of the campaign and gave a statement.
“Crime and Violence are not just law enforcement issues; they are public health concerns that affect the well-being of our entire community. By addressing these issues from a holistic perspective, we aim to create lasting positive change,” the PM stated.
In addition to this, PM Terrance Drew also invited all the citizens and residents of St Kitts and Nevis to participate with full activeness in the activities coming ahead. He highlighted that all the citizens including himself, have a role to play in making the communities safer.
He further said that, “Together we can create an environment where every individual feels secure and valued.”
The Prime Minister and the Task Force encourages everyone to stay up-to-date and informed and participate in this crucial initiative.
