The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr. Terrance Drew attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the Conaree Football Stadium. The event was hosted on Wednesday with several members of the government present at the event.
Minister of Creative Economy, Sports et al, Samal Duggins also attended the event alongside the Minister of Constituency Empowerment and other government officials. The Drew led administration is delighted to see the stadium project starting in the community.
The government had promised the members of the community that they would construct a football stadium in the community. The space would be used to host the league matches for the St. Kitts and Nevis Football Association.
At the same time, the project would help in nurturing the interest of youngsters of the country into the sports sector. The plans for the project are in motion for several months with the Prime Minister taking great interest in the developments.
PM Drew noted that one of the his first objectives with Conaree was the construction of this stadium. He understood the significant role that the construction of the infrastructure will play within the community.
At the groundbreaking ceremony, Prime Minister Dr. Terrance Drew spoke about the various steps they had completed prior to the groundbreaking. He recollected that the stadium project was highly anticipated among the people of Conaree.
The Prime Minster announced that they had hosted consultations with the community to get their opinion on the construction. The administration included many of the suggestions that the community into the revised plans of the stadium.
One of the prominent suggestions was the inclusion of a ramp in the plans of the stadium as there are many people in Conaree who use wheelchairs. The aim of the new addition was to facilitate wheelchair users in accessing the stadium. PM Terrance Drew noted that it is critical to include the community and let them have a say.
Minister Samal Duggins also spoke briefly during the groundbreaking ceremony. He noted that upon completion, the stadium will stand as a centrepiece to the Conaree community. It will be a place where people can come to support their favourite teams and have festivals together.
