The International Federation of the Red Cross (IFRC) has been praised for the donations made to support those affected by the destruction of Hurricanes Irma and Jose in the caribbean and Americas.
The IFRC began an appeal for donations to aid Antigua and Barbuda, after the destruction caused by Hurricane Irma.
There was an original target of 1.1 million Swiss Francs to support the twin-island nation.
However, the amount will be adjusted following full field assessments.
Through Hurricane Irma, Antigua came out relatively unharmed. Barbuda was heavily impacted, with a mandatory evacuation order put in place by the government.
Barbuda was among the islands with the most destruction in the region.
The Antigua and Barbuda Red Cross has confirmed there is an adequate amount of food and general supplies for victims on the islands, but there is a desperate need for financial aid for those who will need to rebuild their homes.
The Red Cross has volunteers in place who are already providing essential relief to those who have been evacuated.
The Antigua and Barbuda Red Cross has partnered with The Halo Foundation to co-ordinate relief efforts in Barbuda.
