Minister of Infrastructure in St. Kitts and Nevis, Mr. Ian Liburd, has announced the construction of the new Basseterre High School and a second pier at Port Zante are in the works.
Mr. Liburd made the announcement at a town hall meeting held at Edgar T. Morris Primary School on November 5.
The first stage of construction for the new high school is currently with the Cabinet for approval. Mobilisation will begin as soon as it is approved.
After Cabinet has approved this, the second stage would be the construction of the school, which the Minister believes can be completed in 18 months.
Mr. Liburd said that the health and wellbeing of staff and students are of paramount importance. He also referred to the Team Unity Manifesto commitment to build a new high school.
Construction and loan contracts are currently being finalised for the new pier.
“We hope that within the next couple of weeks those will be finalised and we shall mobilise come January and have our brand new cruise pier in early 2019,” Mr Liburd said.
